Low energy nuclear physics rather than high energy, or elementary particle physics is considered. Nuclear structure at a fairly basic level, spin and static electric and magnetic moments, approached from quantum mechanics rather than through the vector model of angular momentum, nuclear decay: both electromagnetic and beta-decay are treated using quantum mechanics, but without formal field theory, the theory of nuclear reactions: the concepts of cross section and of resonance are treated in detail, self-sustaining nuclear reactions including the nuclear physics of the fission reactor, the nuclear aspects of stellar physics, and a further application of the theory of thermonuclear reactions: the problems of devising a thermonuclear power plant are treated. Isospin is covered including charge independence and isospin in low energy nuclear physics: pion physics, and the physics of strange particles. (UK)
