From 3rd international symposium on toroidal plasma confinement; Garching, Germany (26 Mar 1973). A mechanism of ion diffusion analogous to the neoclassical diffusion is shown to be active when Transit Time Magnetic Pumping (TTMP) is applied to a plasma column confined by a magnetic field having a finite rotational transform. The resulting enhancement of plasma losses can be kept negligible by providing appropriate boundary conditions (electrostatic screening) to the electric field. A quantitative derivation of the diffusion ln the linear regime is presented. (GE)
