In structural design of nuclear power plant facilities. Simple vortex flow models are presented which define the wind velocity component and differential pressure at any point in the cyclonic field. The parameters used to quantify these values have been developed from observed tornado data and may be used with the simple model to specify more completely the Design Basis Tornado. These wind and pressure effects can be combined to determine structural load on building surfaces. Using automated finite element structural design techniques which readily permit nonsymmetric loading it is possible to perform more rational tornado structural design. (12 references) (auth)
