ESCA, IR, and chemical analysis of the structure of DPA-VPI-5 revealed random phosphorous defects, but the structure of TBA-VPI-5 is relatively perfect. The DPA-VPI-5 defects enhance the phase transformation to AlPO{sub 4}-8 in the absence of adsorbed water. 30 refs., 7 figs., 1 tab.
