As of January 1, 1995, Phase I of the acid rain program required the 110 largest, high-emitting utility plants (located in 21 states) to comply with intermediate sulfur dioxide (SO{sub 2}) emission limitation requirements. These controls are designed to reduce SO{sub 2} emissions from units to less than or equal to 2.50 pounds per million Btu (lb/MMBtu). According to a report recently released by EPA, all of the facilities affected by phase I successfully met their compliance obligations. The results of the Phase I performance evaluation were published in a July 1996 report entitled `1995 Compliance Results - Acid Rain Program,` and are presented here in brief. 1 refs., 1 fig.
