A 4-l ionization chamber for /sup 225/Ra determination for corrections in uranium/thorium age estimations is described. By measuring the activity of / sup 222/Rn in secular equilibrium with /sup 226/Ra, the /sup 22 6/Ra activity of a sample can be determined. The sample is kept in a flask for about one month to achieve secular equilibrium. By flushing nitrogen through the sample liquid, the radon is tnansferred into the counter. Integral counting is used. The highvoltage characteristics show a slope of less than 0.1% per 100 V. A discriminator shift of 1% causes a 0.2% change in the counting rate. Activities in the order of 0.01 dpm can be detected with this counter. (auth)
