From seventh radiochemical conference on radiochemical separation methods; Marianske Lazne, Czech (24 Apr 1973). A survey is made of the papers presented at the 7th Radiochemical Conference held on April 24-27, 1973, and mainly devoted to the methods for radiochemical separations. The great majority of papers concerned unpublished works on theoretical aspects or practical applications of solvent extraction, extraction chromatography, and ion-exchange chromatography with inorganic or organic-based materials. Several papers were also devoted to other separation techniques, and to direct radioanalytical methods. (auth) A rapid radiochemical separation of selenium from arsenic, germanium, and zinc based on the precipitation of elemental selenium by NaHSO/sub 3/ is discussed. Yields of 90% and greater are achieved from selenium in 1 to 2 min. The kinetics, separation characteristics of the process, and chemical yield of Se and trace contaminants such as Zn, Ge, and As were studied using nondispersive x-ray fluorescence techniques. (auth)
