Remote corrosion measurements carried out during complex tests of the A-1 reactor

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4371390

ABS>As a basis for the corrosion measurement in the A-1 reactor, corrosion probes were used placed in the piping of heavy-water circuit outside of the reactor. Each probe was used for two types of measurement: the instantaneous corrosion rate and the instantaneous corrosion attack measurements. For the measurement of the instantaneous corrosion rate a method is used of the polarization resistance according to Stern and Geary. The determination of the corrosion attack is carried out using the current transients observed in the element consisting of two electrodes, both from the same metal. Corrosion environment was measured consisting of heavy water, saturated with carbon dioxide at a temperature of 90 deg C and a pressure of 65 at. It circulates in the primary circuit at a velocity of up to 3 m/sec; water temperature varies between 40 deg C and 90 deg C. (auth)
