FTIR spectroscopy was used to study the photolysis of methylacetylene at 193 nm to yield CH{sub 3}C{sub 2}+H and CH{sub 2}+C{sub 2}H{sub 2}. CD{sub 3}C{sub 2}H photolysis confirmed that acetylene-d{sub 1} is a primary product. Photolysis of CD{sub 3}C{sub 2}H and Cl{sub 2} mixtures produce HCl only, indicating that H atoms are immediately dissociated from the triple-bonded carbon. 21 refs., 9 figs., 2 tabs.
