Simulation of a singe-tube condensation experiment using the RELAP5/MOD3 code
- Texas A&M Univ., College Station, TX (United States)
The presence of noncondensable gases in the isolation condensers of the passive containment cooling system (PCCS) of a simplified boiling water reactor (SBWR) may have a significant impact on the steam condensation process and lower heat transfer efficiency. One of the most recent studies is a single-tube condensation experiment performed at University of California, Berkeley that was aimed at obtaining an experimental database to represent the effects of noncondensable gases on the condensation heat transfer coefficients in the SBWR PCCS condensers. The goal of this research was to assess the RELAP5/MOD3.2 code`s ability to predict the effect of noncondensable gases on condensation in a vertical tube by simulating the Berkeley condensation experiment.
