The Doppler coefficient of reactivity is a crucial parameter in safety analyses for several transients in light water reactors (LWRs), including the control rod ejection and steam-line break accidents for pressurized water reactors and the control rod drop accident for boiling water reactors. However, it is relatively small in magnitude and cannot be measured directly in an operating reactor.
