A chemical dosimetry making use of radiolysis of /sup 60/Co-labelled ethylenediaminetetraacetate Co(III) solution is described. The cobalt ion which was produced by gamma -irradiation was separated from the complex ion by cation- exchange separation method. The percentage of radiolytic yield of /sup 60/Co ion which was obtained by the radioactivity measurement of both fractions of cobalt ion and complex ion was found to increase linearly with gamma -radiation dose. For the dosimeter concentration of 1 x 10/sup -2/ M, the response curve was found keeping linearity with the dose throughout the range 3 x 10/sup 3/ to 3 x 10/sup 6/ rad. The G-value is 1.06 plus or minus 0.04. The present dosimetric system by using radioactive /sup 60/Co as tracer and coupling with ion-exchange separation is found useful for routine radiation monitoring of medium level gamma -dose with relative simplicity and high reproducibility.
