Forecast on technological progress in radioisotope and radiation utilization

Journal Article · · At. Jap., v. 16, no. 11, pp. 20-23
OSTI ID:4369143
Predictions in the utilization technology of radioisotopes and radiation in Japan, made by the Science and Technology Agency in October 1972, are summarized based on the results of questionnaires sent to about 1,000 experts on radiation. By the 1980s, radioisotopes and radiation will find wider application in medicine, agriculture, measurement, and instrumentation. Half of the radiation sources required will be produced domestically by that time. The following matters are discussed: manufacture of the radioisotopes, utilization in agriculture, industrial utilization, medical applications, prevention of radiation hazards and disposal of radioactive wastes, and the development of new technology.
