The track registration and retention characteristics of Muscovite mica and fused quartz (vitreosil) Solid-State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs) have been studied at high environmental temperatures. A particular emphasis has been laid on the improvement of genuine to background track densities so that the detectors can be used for even low yield experiments. The experiments were carried out in the temperature range of 22 deg C to 900 deg C and the results show that fused quartz (vitreosil) and mica (muscovite) SSNTDs can be used with an almost 100% efficiency up to temperatures of ~500 and 400 deg C respectively.
