Anion radicals of acrylic monomers in $gamma$-irradiated organic glasses at 77$sup 0$K

Journal Article · · J. Polym. Sci., Polym. Lett. Ed., v. 11, no. 5, pp. 309-312

Electron spin resonance studies on methyl methacrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, allyl methacrylate, acrolein, acrylamide, acrylic acid, crotonic acid, and methyl crotonate are reported. Acrylic monomers gamma irradiated in the dark at 77 deg K in dried organic glasses give rise to ESR spectra that are easily photobleached. Study of these spectra suggests that anion radicals are formed from the acrylics in gamma-irradiated glasses of 2methyltetrahydrofuran, 3- methylpentane, and 3-methylhexane. (LK)
