Observations of Type I bursts at 169 MHz and coronal scattering

Journal Article · · Astron. Astrophys., v. 27, no. 3, pp. 361-365

Using the Nancay radioheliograph operating at 169 MHz, the center to limb variation of the angular size of Type I solar radio bursts emitted by a sample stable source was measured. It was found that this variation is small. This result can be explained by a scattering process by radially elongated inhomogeneities of the electron density in corona. It was also found that the bursts have an intrinsic size that can be produced by local effects. (auth)
