The Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) CO/sub 2/ laser program was organized to design, fabricate, and evaluate highenergy, short-pulse CO/sub 2/ lasers for use in fusion studies. A general discussion of electron-beam- controlled lasers is included, along with details of component designs. This includes a discussion of the high-voltage pulsers, electron guns, pumping chamber vessels, timing, and operational experience with the 1-kJ CO/sub 2/ laser system components. In addition, the general design of the 10-kJ C0/sub 2/ laser system is presented. (auth)
