Ovarian radiation dosage during fluoroscopic hysterosalpingography (in Japanese)
Ovarian radiation dose in the TV-hysterosalpingography (abbreviated as TV-HSG) was measured, and this was compared with that in the usual HSG or radiographic pelvimetry conducted in the terminal stage of pregnancy. As a measure to reduce the radiation doses without spoiling the advantage of the fluoroscopy in TV-HSO, the fluoroscopy was continued intermittently by an operator manipulating a foot switch 1 to 3 times per sec. (This method is abbreviated as intermittent TV-HSG.) The subjects of this study were 30 cases of the TV-HSG, 20 cases of the intermittent TV-HSG, and 7 cases of the radiographic pelvimetry. In the HSG, ovarian radiation doses in three trials averaged 200 plus or minus 65 mR. In the TV-HSG, the fluoroscopic time averaged 2 min 19 sec plus or minus 44 sec, the ovarian radiation doses averaged 543 plus or minus 200 mR, and the total ovarian radiation dose averaged 673 plus or minus 215 mR including two x-ray exams. In the intermittent TV-HSG, the fluoroscopic time averaged 36 plus or minus 13 sec, the ovarian radiation doses averaged 173 plus or minus 55 mR, and the total ovarian radiation doses averaged 311 plus or minus 59 mR including two x-ray exams. In the radiographic pelvimetry, the ovarian radiation dose averaged 246 plus or minus 50 mR and 346 plus or minus 75 mR by the exam. of the ventralward picture and the lateral-ward picture respectively, and the radiation doses averaged 592 plus or minus 88 mR including two x-ray exams. The correlation between the fluoroscopic time and the radiation doses was shown by the correlation coefficient, r = 0.5323, significant level, p 0.001, and the regression line being y = 3.3x + 75.8 (x: time, y: ovarian radiation doses).. In the intermittent TV-HSG, the fluoroscopic time and the ovarian radiation doses were approximatoly 1/4 and 1/8 respectively those in the TV-HSG. The total ovarian radiation doses in the intermittent TV-HSG was approximately 1/2 that in the radiographic pelvimetry, and it was 1.5 times that in the HSG. (JA)
