Auroral conjugacy between Kerguelen Island and North-West USSR

Journal Article · · J. Atmos. Terrest. Phys., v. 36, no. 3, pp. 407-516
During the magnetospheric substorms of 25 February 1971, simultaneous auroras occurred over Kerguelen, Heard Island and north-west U.S.S.R. The records are studied with a view to determine auroral conjugacy between these areas. Latitude wise, mean auroral conjugates in the Kerguelen, Sogra-- Karpagor region are within 50 km of the nominal conjugacy after the J. C. Cain field model 1966. During the course of the substorm, variations of the conjugacy within plus or minus 50 km occurred. Longitudewise, the departure of auroral conjugacy from nominal magnetic conjugacy may be much larger, but could not be determined. (auth)
