Thesis. Data are presented on single pion production in K/sup +/d interactions at 4.6 GeV/c, obtained from a 7 events/ mu b exposure of the CERN 2- metre bubble chamber filled with deuterium. The following reactions are considered: K/sup +/n yields K/sup +/ pi -p, K/sup +/n - yields K/sup o/ i/sup o/p, K/sup +/n - yields K/sup o/ pi /sup +/n and K/sup +/d yields K/sup o/ pi / sup +/d. The differential and total cross sections of these processes were measured. Strong K(892) and K(1420) resonance production was observed. The decay distributions of those resonances were studied in the framework of the density matrix formalism. The need for an interference term between resonance and background was established. In the first reaction backward K(892) production was observed, some evidence in favor of the existence of a K around 1800 MeV was found and no evidence was found for the production of a K(1250) resonance. The possibility of an s-wave resonance in the K(1420) region is discussed. The last two reactions were compared to Veneziano model predictions, and a satisfactory agreement between theory and experiment was obtained for most distributions. The model calculations for the coherent interaction are particularly interesting since the result is sensitive to the relative phase of the amplitude for the reaction on a neutron and a proton. This prediction of the model was tested for the first time in this work. (auth)
