Measurement of radiation $Sigma$$sup +-$ $Yields$ n$pi$$sup +-$ $gamma$ decay
The radiative SIGMA /sup plus or minus / yields n pi /sup plus or minus / gamma decay mode was analyzed in the 81 cm SACLAY hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a stopping K- beam at the CERN PS. The pion spectrum was measured up to momenta of 150 MeV/v in the SIGMA rest frame. The following branching ratios were obtained based on 180 SIGMA /sup +/ yields n pi /sup +/ gamma and 292 SIGMA /sup -/ yields n pi /sup -/ gamma events: R( SIGMA /sup +/ yields n pi /sup +/ gamma )/R( SIGMA /sup +/ yields n pi /sup +/) = (0.93 plus or minus 0.l0) x 10/sup -3/ and R( SIGMA /sup -/ yields n pi /sup -/ gamma ) = (0.46 plus or minus 0.06) x 10/sup -3/. An unambiguous assignment of Swave to the SIGMA /sup -/ yields n pi /sup -/ and P-wave to SIGMA /sup +/ yields n pi /sup +/ was obtained. The absolute and differertial decay rates as well as the parity assignments are in good agreemert with theoretical predictions. (auth)
