A new method for extraction of rare earth elements in nickelbase alloys and aluminum alloys is presented. The masking agent used is composed of 100 M of 60% thiocyanate, 10 ml of 60% sulfosalicylic acid, 120 ml of pH 5.5 acetate, and 370 ml of water. PMBP is used to separate the rare earth elements. The effects of the concentration of the masking agent, the acidity of the solution, and timing of the extraction process are investigated. Experimental results on nickel-base alloys, aluminum alloys, thorium nitrate, and phosphorus rock show that the method has good accuracy. (JPRS)
