Thesis. An analytical model was developed to calculate the influence of resonance absorption on neutron spectra in the thermal range. By using a suitable scattering kernel, it is possible to transform the Boltzmann equation to a linear differential equation of the 2nd order and to describe the solution in the form of an orthonormal system of modified Laguerre functions. This method was used with success for the calculation of thermal neutron spectra in homogeneous mixtures of moderators (H/sub 2/O and D/sub 2/O) and resonance absortbers (/sup 113/Cd and /sup 239/Pu).
