Measurement of the ratio of fission product gamma activities from $sup 239$Pu and $sup 235$U fissions

Journal Article · · J. Nucl. Sci. Technol. (Tokyo), v. 10, no. 9, pp. 560-565

The ratio of the gamma -activities per fission from fission products of /sup 239/Pu and /sup 235/U, and its time dependence were measured by double fission chamber technique. The gamma -activity from the fission products of / sup 239/Pu fission was lower than the corresponding activity relevant to /sup 235/ U fissions. The ratio varied with the cooling time allowed after irradiation. This ratio was applied to power distribution measurements by gamma -scanning method in multi-region cores composed of PuO/sub 2/-U0/sub 2/ and UO/sub 2/ fuels. To obtain the relative power, the m easured gamma -activities from the fission products in the fuel rods were corrected for the difference between the gamma - activities per fission from the fission products.
