The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 requires all federal agencies to give consideration to environmental effects in planning all programs. Specific action-forcing procedures had required agencies to flle 3,635 statements by Dec. 31, 1972. The book considers the judicial interpretations of NEPA since it became law and chapters are included on: NEPA and Congress; How a NEPA Suit Reaches Court; The Requirement of Strict Compliance; Circumstances Requiring an impact Statement; Problems of Transition: Projects and Programs in Progress when NEPA was Enacted; Preparation and Content of Impact Statement; NEPA and Federal Decision Making; and The Impact Statement in Perspective. Specific examples are cited in the Appendices. (MCW)
