Irradiation test capabilities of the FFTF
The Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF) will be the primary irradiation test facility for the US LMFBR program. The central feature of the FFTF is the fast test reactor (FTR) which will provide a high-intensity, hard-spectrum, fast neutron flux for irradiation testing of fuels and materials to be used in future fast breeder power reactors. As many as eight core positions will be available for contact instrumented tests. These test positions present an ultimate capability of six installed closed loops, each with a thermal rating of 4.3 MW(t). The characteristics of the instrumented test positions are discussed together with the irradiation test vehicles which are being designed to utilize these positions. (auth)
