The behavior of the density of states of excited nuclei was studied, allowing for pairing correlations of the superconducting type. The model examined does not use the usual assumption on the constancy of the matrix elements of the pairing interactions For hte thermodynamic characteristics of the nuclei, simple expressions determining their behavior in the superconducting phase were obtained. The very low value of the condensation energy in comparison with the traditional model made it possible to anticipate a significant increase in the density of excited states for nuclei above the phase transition point.
