Direct and compound contributions to (n,$gamma$) cross sections

The direct and compound nucleus contributions to the /sup 203/Pb(n, gamma ) /sup 204/Pb reactlon were investigated in the region 2.25--7.25 MeV. A modified Hauser--Feshbach theory in the presence of direct reactions was used for the compound nucleus cross sections. The corrections to the traditional Hauser-- Feshbach theory are found to be small in this case. (auth)
