High temperature reactor fuel elements: where do we stand today (in German)

Journal Article · · Atomwirt., Atomtech., v. 18, no. 11, pp. 521-524

Current problems of the fuel cycle concerned with the requirements on fuel elements for high temperature reactors (HTR) and the experience so far gained in their manufacture and use in reactors are discussed. A major part of the discussion of some importance in the Federal Republic concerned the relative advantages and disadvantages of the two different forms of fuel element, the prismatic block of the GA element and the sphere used in the German THTR. Opinion was heavily in favor of further developing both forms, not least because of the future use of the HTR for the generation of process heat. (GE)
