A new type thermoluminescent dosimeter reader for personal dose monitoring has been developed. The main features of this instrument are easy handling and quick reading. The applicable dosimeter to this instrument is restricted to the convenient UD200S (CaSO/sub 4/: Tm) type. The instrument includes a semi-automatic lid which is raised to accept the dosimeter, an automatic ranging circuit, and a constant light source for indicator calibration for convenient use. A meter display instead of a digital display and a simple air heat exchanger are applied to reduce the cost of the instrument. The main characteristics are: (1) reading time is 10 sec; (2) dose range is from 1 mR to 10 R; and (3) reproducibility is plus or minus 50% at 1 mR and plus or minus 5% over 10 mR. (auth)
