Hydraulic loosening of screws of reactor vessel heads (in German)
During the successive tightening of the screws, the stress applied will always reach the nominal initial stress values, although this stress on the screws will be reduced again to a certain extent due to the repeated displacement of the tightening device. During the successive loosening of the screws, the initial stressing force on the remaining groups of screws still to be loosened will constantly increase. This increase in stressing force might exceed the capacity of the tightenlng (or loosening) devices. In this case it is advisable to loosen the screws only to a certain extent and thus reduce the inttial stressing forces to about two thirds or half. A diagram is given showing the percentage increase for a given number of groups of screws to be loosened. Thus the optimum number of tightening (or loosening) devices can be determined at the design stage. (GE)
