THE ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS OF LIGHT AND HEAVY FRAGMENTS FROM THE 14 Mev NEUTRON FISSION OF U$sup 23$$sup 8$ (in Russian)
A method is offered for the comparison of the distribution of light and heavy fragments in the direction parallel to the motion of the incident neutrons. Simultaneous measurements were made of the angular distribution of the fragment to the beam of excitation particles and of the kinetic energy of exra fragments emitted at the similar angle. Accordg to the pulse conservation law the ratio of fragment energies (in the center of gravity) is equal to the inverse ratio of their mass; the relative number of these relations determines the mass distribution of fission fragments in a given direction. A dual ionization cbamber with protective grid was used for the determination of energies of the fragments. Results indicated that within the limits of statistical error (5%) the emission at 0 deg to 180 deg are equally probable, hence the angular distribution of light and heavy fragments is symmetric at 90 deg . It is also shown that in U/sup 238/ fission induced by 14 Mev neutrons the angular anisotropy increases with the increase of the mass ratio of fragments. (R.V.J.)
