Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}CaCu{sub 2}O{sub y} (Bi2212) crystals with CuO inclusions were grown on the surface of KCl flux. The density of CuO incorporations of 10{sup 9}/cm{sup 2} was similar to that for Y{sub 2}BaCuO{sub y} in melt-textured YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub y}. The CuO inclusions are needlelike particles with diameter of less than 1 {mu}m. Magnetization measurements show enhanced flux pinning at high magnetic field, compared to crystals without CuO. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
