Irradiation surveillance capsule assemblies for nuclear reactors

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4350710
In an improved irradiation surveillance capsule assembly for nuclear reactors, means are provided for positioning and coupling together a plurality of specimen compartments of the irradiation surveillance capsule assembly. Each capsule assembly has, in a train-type arrangement, a series of specimen compartments having wedge-shaped end caps which mate with complementary shaped end caps on adjacent compartments. The mating end caps are coupled together for limited relative movement so as to permit transverse off-setting of the specimen compartments upon the application of a longitudinal force whereby the movement will cause the compartments to become wedged against the sides of rectangular irradiation surveillance capsule assembly holders positioned within the reactor so as to eliminate vibration in the specimen compartment train of the capsule assembly.
