THE PREPARATION OF CAESIUM METABORATE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4350398

Although the large scale preparation of cesium metaborate would most conveniently use an ion exchange resin the following method was convenient for a small laboratory preparation: cesium nitrate was converted to the bisulfate and this with barium hydroxide gave cesium hydroxide. Excess barium hydroxide was precipitated by passing carbon dioxide through the slurry. After filtering, the filtrate was analyzed for cesium, the calculated quantity of boric acid was added, and the water was evaporated off to leave an amorphous powder which, on fusing in vacuo, gave the pure anhydrous borate.
