The principle and general nature of the 4 pi BETA - gamma coincidence method and a detailed interpretation of correction are reviewed. A new technique is presented, which combines the 4 pi BETA - gamma and the 2 pi BETA - gamma coincidence eountings and offers significant improvement in counting statistics in addition to the considerable reduction of error due to spurious pulses, noise, radioactive contaminants and background fluctuation. The response of the 4 pi BETA -counter to low energy internal conversion electrons is reported. Several possible causes of systematic error in measuring complex decaying nuclides by coincidence absorption method are discussed. In an attempt to overcome complexity in procedures in the 4 pi BETA - gamma coincidence absorption method, a novel method was developed by using a 4 pi BETA - gamma anticoincidence set-up with a Ge(Li) detector which is described.
