Development of a high strain rate constitutive equation for 6061-T6 aluminum

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4350175
A relative simple viscoplastic constitute equation is constructed from previously published experimental data for 6061-Y6 aluminum. Equilibrium strain- hardening behavior is described by a multi-element model, which includes; a Bauschinger effect, fitted to static uniaxial stress data. Elastic moduli and their dependence on strain and internal energy are determined by a MieGrueneisen equation of state evaluated from ultrasonic data and high-pressure shock-wvave data. The relaxation function is evaluated from compressive steady-wave data. The constitutive equation is used to obtain numerical flow field solutions of plate impact experiments which are compared with existing experimental unloading wave data. (auth)
