Graft polymerization of vinyl chloride--vinyl acetate onto pre-irradiated polyethylene (in Japanese)
The effect of reaction condition on the co-graft polymerization of pre- irradiated polyethylene (I) with vinyl chloride (II) and vinyl acetate mixed monomer system has been investigated. When reaction temperature and the II content in monomer are increased, the weight percent of really grafted I (RPE) and the net percent graft (G/sub n) increase in the beginning of the reaction. The addition of methanol into the system gives no effect on RPE, while G/sub n/ is depressed remarkably. Since G/sub n/ increases after the saturation of RPE the propagation of graft chain is presumably consecutive reaction. The reactive amount of monomer unit in the graft chains agrees closely with that determined by MRR in ordinal radical polymerization. (auth)
