The high excitation rotational states of U/sup 234/, rccorded during Pu/ sup 238/ alpha decay, were measured with a magnetic alpha spectrometer. The Pu/sup 238/ was obtained as the product of Cm/sup 242/ alpha decay formed during Am/sup 241/ bombardment in a flux of slow neutrons. A chromatographic method was used to achieve a complete separation of Pu and Am; thus Am/sup 241/ alpha lines were not observed in the obtained alpha spectra. Measurements at 40 and 110 hr were taken, and the decay scheme of Pu/sup 238/ and energy levels of U/sup 234/ are shown. Measurements revealed alpha lines with energies of 5.352 and 5.205 Mev. Intensities of corresponding transitions were 0.13 plus or minus 0.01% and (5 plus or minus 1) x 10/sup -3/%. In the energy level from 5.2l0 to 5.350 Mev the intensity lines do not exceed 2 x 10/sup -3/%. The weak alpha line obviously belongs to Pu/sup 238/. Results of all measurements are presented in tabular form. The levels fit well into the rotational scheme for even-even parity nuclei. (R.V.J.)
