Measurements of the gamma -ray emission of radium (roentgens per milligram-hour at 1 centimeter) have been made by means of a graphite cavity ionization chamber. An auxiliary experimental examination of the stopping-power correction for the non-air-equivalence of the cavity wall is also described. The resulting average value for the gamma -ray emission of radium (enclosed in an 0.5-millimeter platinum capsule) is 8.26 plus or minus 0.05 roentgens per milligram-hour at 1 centimeter, which is based upon the conclusion that the stopping-power data of Bakker and Segre are consistent with the results of the auxiliary experiment.
