CHEMISTRY DIVISION, SECTION C-II SUMMARY REPORT FOR JULY THROUGH DECEMBER 1947

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4348337
Power Pile Problems. Investigations are reported on: the properties of BeO, impregnation of graiphite with U, effect of heating and radiation U- impregnated graphate, diffusion of radioxenon from BeO-UO/sub 2/, and radiation effects on BeO and BeO-UO/sub2/ materials. Solid State Problems. The studies reported oa are: radiation effects on artifical graphite and natural graphite crystals, neutron capture cross section of C/sup 13/, distribution of Cal in irradiated graphite, heat of sublimation and vapor pressure of graiihite, radiation effects on gas production in crystals, sputtering of metals on irradiation, absorption spectra of irradiated and unirradiated MgO crystals, alkali halide crystals with color center, and Tl activated alkalii halide phosphors. Radiochemistry. Snow neutron fission yields in U/sup 233/ and preparation of fission product Sn isotopes were studied. Analytical Problems in spectrograhy of Np/sup 237/ ere investigated. (T.R.H.)
