Determination of $sup 131$I in reactor dust particles collected on silver filters

Iodine-131 collected on Ag filters and graphite dust was determined by a radiochemical method that separates the /sup 131/I from the large quantities of / sup 110m/Ag and fission products. The sample is dissolved in HNO/sub 3/, HClO/ sub 4/, and NaVO/sub 3/, metathasized to free /sup 131/I from Ag which is removed as the metal, and the /sup 131/I reprecipitated as AgI. Decontamination factors of 10/sup 3/ or greater are obtained with a chemical yield approaching 90%. (auth)
