BS>From colloquium on meteorological problems occurring in reactor incidents; Nuremburg, Germany (May 1972). The German Meteorological Service does not have any influence on the site selection of a nuclear power plant. It is concerned with meteorological site studies instigated by the proper licensing authorities and then occupies the position of an independent expert. Thc site judgment to be made runs parallel to the construction of the plant; the results come into the propagation calculations, they are used in the operating license. The meteorological judgment of a nuclear power plant is principally affirmed. It offers, by special measurements at the reactor site, assured data on local climatic characteristics and on local propagation situations. It should be broadly applied and performed by timely planning without time pressure. Its size and duration depend on areal relief of the reactor site. A full meteorological judgment can be completed within 11/2 to 3 years. (GE)
