Primary yields in the $gamma$-radiolysis of gaseous aliphatic amines

Yields of H/sub 2/ and CH/sub 4/ from methyl-, dimethyl-, trimethyl- and ethylamine vapors gamma -irradiated at room temperature were measured. The effects of dose, pressure, and electron and free radical scavengers on these yields have been studied. From the decreases in G(H/sub 2/) in the presence of scavengers values for G/sub H2/, G/sub e/, G/sub H/ and relative rate constants for some reactions of H atoms have been calculated. Except for methylamine the values of G/sub e/ obtained in this way are lower than those obtained from measurements of the energy of ion pair formation, W. Ethylenediamine is a product from radiolysis of methylamine, but dimethylhydrazine is not. (auth)
