A dosimeter for recording alpha particles using track-registration material is described. The dosimeter consists of a housing and an insert means holding the track-registration material. The dosimeter can be secured to a hat worn by a person working in an environment to be monitored, such as a uranium mine, which may contain quantities of radon gas and radon daughter products. The insert means is easily secured to and removed from the housing. The dosimeter is exceptionally small, light-weight and effective. The combined housing and insert means provides shielding for the film against unwanted radiation from deposited alpha-emitting particles and protects the film from physical contamination.
