DYNAMIC CORROSION IN POLYPHENYLS UNDER IRRADIATION

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4345135
Corrosion specimens of various materials were exposed to polyphenyls in the NAA-20 loops at MTR, and compared with out-of-pile specimens in the same coolant streams over the temperature range of 500 deg to 650 deg F. Aluminum, 304 and 410 stainiess steel, carbon steel, and 4130 alloy steel exhibited good to excellent resistance. Magnesium and zirconium were unsatisfactory. Integrated neutron fluxes of the order of 2 x 10/sup 19/ thermal, and 10/sup 18/ fast, did not affect the corrosion resistance of the materials studied. (auth)
