HOT PATCH BURNOUT TESTS IN 0.097 in. x 1 in. x 27 in. LONG RECTANGULAR CHANNELS AT 2000 PSIA

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4342673
A series of upflow burnout tests were conducted in the Bettis Burnout Loop No. 23 on a 0.097 in. x 1 in. x 27 1/16 in. long (L/D/sub c/ = 140) test specimen that contained a local hot patch'' which had a flux peak 1.98 times that existing in the remainder of the test specimen. The hot patch'' was 1 3/4 in. long (L/sub patch/D/sub e/ approximately 7) located 3/8 in. from the exit of the channel. The range of variables investigated were mass velocities of 0.35 x 10/sup 6/to 2.0 x 10/sup 6/ lb/hr-ft/sup 2/ at inlet temperatures of 100, 300, and 500 deg F. The results of these tests indicate a peak effectiveness varying from 100 to 4% as the enthalpy at burnout varies from 550 Btu/ lb to 918 Btu/lb. (auth)
