Radiation pathology in rabbits following destruction of the posterior hypothalamus (in Russian)

In studies on 23 rabbits, immediately after 600 R of x radiation was used to destroy the posterior hypothalamus, the brain cortex activity increased, but in 15 days it dropped to normal and then decreased somewhat, finally returning to normal by the 20th day. Indexes determined are tabulated, viz. amplitude of the biocurrent in the frontal and rear regions, amplitude of the expressed potentials, the QRS voltage, and the erythrocyte and leukocyte counts. Changes in the leukocyte formula and the EKG, the more prolonged anemia, and the more strongly expressed changes in the EEG in the experimental animals compared to the controls indicate a more severe form of radiation sickness in rabbits irradiated on the second day after coagulation of the posterior hypothalamus than in the controls.
