HYDROGEN YIELDS IN AQUEOUS SODIUM NITRATE SOLUTION BY COBALT-60 GAMMA-RAY RADIATION

In radiolysis of aqueous solutions hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide are initially observed products. These molecular produets are thought to be produced by hydrogen atoms and hydroxyl radicals reacting with themselves as they diffuse away from the site where they are formed. It was shown thnt hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide yields in aqueous solution may be depressed by solutes. All irradiations were made utilizing a Co/sup 60/ gamma-ray source. (A.C.)
