The width of the f meson, crossing sum rules and the pomeron

Journal Article · · Nucl. Phys., B, v. B70, no. 1, pp. 141-153
Sum rules on pseudoscalar meson — meson scattering amplitudes in the physical region are studied. Our main conclusions are: (i) The too narrow width of the f meson obtained in dual models is related to the absence of a pomeron in these models and, vice versa, a pomeron may not be added to a crossing - symmetric amplitude without changing the f width. (ii) Numerically, a width of about 200 MeV, as found in a recent high-statistics ππ phase shift analysis, is preferred. (iii) The singlet/octet ratio for the tensor meson couplings is larger than predicted e.g. by the U(3) quark model.
